Why should I continue my flea and tick prevention during wintertime?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Keep your pets on flea and tick protection all year circular! It is common today to hear people say "I don't requite my pet flea and tick prevention in the winter at that place is no need, since it is and so cold". This is a myth that is still believed today. We want to share some information as to why information technology is recommended you continue your prevention all year.

Fleas
Information technology only takes one. One flea can be brought into your habitation on you, or you're pet. That one flea can cause a flea infestation. Fleas can survive outdoors in temperatures every bit low equally 33 degrees for as long equally five days. This is plenty of time for them to come into your home and get nice and warm. Flea eggs tin live year round in protected areas such as garages, crawl spaces, and porches.

Ticks
It is proven that ticks are more than active or highly agile in the late summer and early autumn. Some consider spring and summertime equally tick season and don't realize how agile ticks are in the autumn. Ticks tin be active in temperatures ranging from 40 degrees and as depression as 32 degrees. During the winter when we have a warm or mild day nosotros accept our pets out to enjoy it, this exposes them to ticks in the environment.

Your pets can be exposed to fleas and ticks in social settings too. Doggie parks, grooming facilities, kennels, and daycares are risks besides. These facilities leap through hoops to insure no fleas are present but it tin can be an ongoing battle. It only takes one fauna conveying one flea or tick to spread exposure.

Reasons owners may not apply preventatives all year round:

Cost. While these products can be very constructive when used properly, they can be considered expensive. Veterinary Hospitals ofttimes have special offers and rebates on the products they deport. Some pet parents volition stop giving preventatives when it gets common cold to save money. Anyone that has ever had a flea infestation knows how expensive, difficult and time consuming it is to correct the situation. Another business is the fright that these products are not safety and tin damage their pets. While in that location are reported reactions and illness related to these preventatives, the serious reactions are nearly ever a outcome of user error. The Environmental Protection Agency launched an investigation in 2008 and continues to monitor safety and whatever adverse reactions. Time and time again they are proven to be safe when used properly. Visit this link for detailed information on existence safe about flea and tick prevention products:

The gamble:
While the risk of your pet getting a flea or a tick in the winter is lower than in the other seasons, we want yous to be enlightened it is not incommunicable. You may make up one's mind to gamble each winter, only what happens if yous lose? Your pet could contract a tick borne illness, your pet and your home could become infested with fleas. If this occurs it tin be far more than costly to care for your pet for an infection or infestation.

Our goal is to educate pet owners on the very real risks of exposure and why we recommend yr round protection for animals. There are many different preventatives on the marketplace and they all have pros and cons. No single production is right for every pet. We strongly suggest to talk to your primary veterinarian and discuss what they feel is effective and best for your individual pet.

Every time I'thou there, I have a very good experience for being at the vet with my ill dog that has bad allergies and is up in age with other fun problems. I capeesh the time Dr. Hennessey takes with my dog, Molly, and how she's very thorough with her explanations of everything.

Another great appointment with Dr Hennesey! She took time to reply all my questions, explained my dog's test results and necessary meds, and was especially compassionate with my fearful canis familiaris - she did everything she could to make him feel safety and relaxed. We couldn't be happier with the intendance and kindness we e'er get from Dr H and the entire Ludwigs staff!
